It's what made me latch on to the story and never let go to the very end.

It was clear from the very start that EB and Lauren are two different girls, with different backgrounds and circumstances in life that guides them to a similar path: College. It's engrossing to see just how their personalities clash and mash up with each other's as they share things in their lives they never thought they'd share with anyone else, let alone someone they've never seen before. I was transfixed with the way their lives are unraveling alongside each other, so different, and then you start to wonder just what it is that will connect the two of them. How do they tackle the challenges they encounter in their lives when they're on the verge of a really big transition? How do they feel knowing that they were virtually on a countdown to the next phase of their lives? What do they want to leave behind? What can they leave behind? Those questions swirl around my head as I read EB's story, with a mom who always dates the wrong guy and a gay father, and then falling in love with a guy who happens to be the son of the guy her mother is dating. And then I'm faced with Lauren's life, filled with chaos caused by a big family, and never really finding the time for herself as she goes from one job to another to help her family, and then falling for a person she least expects to fall for.

There's a certain magic in the way EB and Lauren's lives were written in parallel. We see the contrast in it and how they react to all that was happening to their lives, and I love how both Sara and Tara was able to present two distinct characters existing side by side with another. Not one overshadowed the other. I like EB and Lauren for different reasons, and it was a challenge not to compare them. Truth be told, I was exasperated with EB for the most part. It's because Lauren seemed more matured, so experienced in life with her family that I fail to see how EB's reactions to her family's set-up as nothing more than a tantrum. But EB had this spark in her that made her an interesting character too. They both grew up a lot in that last summer, and we see each and every essential parts of their lives connecting and help construct the person both EB and Lauren is.

Sara Zarr and Tara Alterando were able to capture perfectly the emotions that goes along with such a big change that most teens go through. That transition from High School to College, from being just a teen to eventually growing up and exploring what it means to be an adult was utterly caught and presented in a really good and enjoyable way in Roomies. Enduring friendships, friendships that start off rocky and becoming much, much more stronger, misunderstandings, secrets, finding love in the most unexpected time and place, dealing with that particular love and the complications, possibilities and changes in might bring to their lives... all of it were amply tackled and presented in a really an entertaining, lovely way that only Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando can.  

A wave of nostalgia just hit me over and over while I was reading this. Roomies is a very endearing, swell of a read!

Content (plot, story flow, character):

For the same reason that I like EB and Lauren because of different reasons, I liked Mark and Keyon too. I loved how Mark is such a nice, understanding guy. And Keyon for being fun and gentlemanly, giving sage advice to Lauren when she needs it. What irritated me though was EB's reaction to Lauren telling her about her father. And her father! What kind of a father was that? EB deserved better. Lauren's family just warms my heart.

What a gorgeous cover! I feel like someone's brought me to space just by looking at it. Anyway, I haven't read a lot of sci-fi novels like this one so I'm definitely intrigued. It's like a mix of quite a few popular ideas that gave birth to something that sounds similar but unique at the same time. Hmmmm. I'll definitely be keeping my eye out on this one.

Oh my gosh, everything about this book, from the cover to the summary sounds so creepy and intriguing. I know Beth Griffin's series Masque of Red Death is a series based on one of Poe's works so I shouldn't be surprised that this one is too, but this book? The Fall sounds deliciously dark and interesting that even though I'm a wimp for anything scary, I still want to read this one.

Imagine being an Usher... and then suddenly waking up inside a coffin? Oh no.

But Dillan's got secrets of his own to keep, and Newcastle, the place he was exiled to, seems to be much more than it seems and it seems to be connected to Selena. The question is, how and why?

It was exhausting to read this book, and I mean that in a good way. Emotions keep on shifting a lot and if you lose focus, you will find yourself lost and confused. Selena and Dillian are both strong characters, and sparks literally fly whenever their paths cross. Selena's feisty in her own way and I like how she reacts towards Dillian. It's both amusing and very funny at times. Dillian is a certified bad boy. It doesn't help that his mood shifts ever so often, and that unstable, dark vibe draws a lot of attention to him and his past as much as it does to Selena and the story behind her ability.

It's interesting how Kate crafted Newcastle, and how it became such a perfect place for the supernatural and the bizarre to thrive in. It's such a crazy place! It seemed surreal at times, but it's quite a location for such a story to happen. I like how everything is not what it seems, what the surface looks like is an entirely different thing once you delved deeper. Also, I like how every person in Selena's life is tied to each other. It's not a surprise, but what was surprising is how each character, with their own secrets to keep, really are. The contrasts of their personalities once their secrets are out is quite a thing to read. Nothing and no one is what they seem in Newcastle.

The pacing however, is a bit slow, and it took time for me to figure things out. You might need a bit of extra patience, because things will get clearer as you get deeper in the story, this I promise you. Hold on tight! Kate masterfully held all the answers to the questions and secrets surrounding Selena that piled up throughout the story and unleashed it all towards the end, which gave it such an impact and a memorable finish. I loved how Kate was able to inject the creep, the mystery vibe and the thrilling sequences in the right parts. I found myself breathless a few times as well. Talk about breath taking scenes! It's like it's possible to feel the electricity between Selena and Dillian physically when I read of their clashes and encounters. They're so entertaining to read of especially when they bicker. They have the love-hate relationship down to a tee! Secondary characters like Kyle, Penny, Ranier, Grams and Gramps were inserted in such a way that made the story a bit more lively. They will all make you wonder how they all fit in Selena's life and what role do they have in it.

Also, can I please have Sebastian as my friend?

Overall, Til Death is quite an absorbing start to the series. I'm not surprised that the pacing is a bit slow, as this is the first book, but it's enough to feed the readers quite a tantalizing opener for what looks like a promising series! What an intriguing opener, Kate! It's something new and enjoyable. I liked this book and I will definitely be on the look out for the sequel!

What a way to end the first book. Katarina will be proud!

Content (plot, story flow, character):

Kate is evil! She just had to cut the story off just when it was getting to the juicy part. My biggest problem really was the pacing of the story, since I felt like it wasn't moving forward for quite the majority of the book, but the tension between Selena and Dillan more than made up for it! I expect a lot more BOOM and earth shattering moments in Book 2. When do we get it? :)

Layla sees souls and tags demons. It's the only thing she can do to stop herself from thinking too much about how she's unwanted, not accepted and not really either of the two species she's from: Warden and Demon. The Wardens, shifters with pure souls who turn into Gargoyles, keep the human world safe and the Demons do a little mischief to keep the balance of the world between Good and Evil. That is, until Layla finds herself being hunted by creatures from Hell with a very powerful demon as her protector. Hell wants her for a reason, but her family, The Wardens, aren't telling her anything. Why is a scorching hot demon helping her and why is her being a Half Demon Half Warden suddenly very important?

I had issues with Layla. Admittedly, I didn't like her at the start. She's the sort of girl that I do not like, the type who cries easily, whiny and demanding, who pities herself all day long and it took a while for me to warm up to her. She's not the typical kick-ass girl I see in most of Jennifer Armentrout's novels, she's that girl who's always sad and lost. Layla earned my sympathy at one point with the struggles she was facing and the trials she had to go through, trying to show the world that she's good when the rest of it thinks she's nothing but evil. I came to like her when she showed signs that she's changing for the better, slowly growing a backbone, and the gradual snark and fierceness she showed brought to life her character.

I can give you a pretty long list why I love Roth from the bottom of my very girly and all too romantic, giggly heart. He makes me swoon with the mere mention of his name. He's the perfect representation of all that is naughty and not so nice in a Demon. Every single word that comes out of his mouth was designed to make a girl do very, very bad things. What I liked about him is that beneath all that haughty, playful persona lies something more. He doesn't claim to be someone he's not, and he's not lying when he said he's not really nice. But beneath it all is a heart, though tainted, that has the capacity to feel. And who says demons cannot fall in love?

This is also one of those times where I totally feel nothing for the other love interest. Zayne was automatically typecasted as the older brother in my book. He can't be anyone else. He's too good, and that goodness pales in comparison compared to Roth's deviousness. He is, however, swoon worthy in his own right.

Also, who wants to own a pet like Bambi? Or Fury, Nitro and Thor?

When I first read the plot, I find it intriguing how gargoyles, demons and angels can mix in a novel, and oddly enough, Jennifer Armentrout made it work. It was, admittedly, a very unusual combination, but the way Jennifer Armentrout spins such a tale made it sound so epic and believable. Zombies? Seeker demons? Giant snakes? It's fascinating how she was able to bring to life such a world without even sounding boring or preachy as it also touches base with words like free will, what is good and what is evil.

Jennifer Armentrout brings the HOT in White Hot Kiss. She has this uncanny ability to write such breath taking, heart racing scenes that you gradually get addicted to as you read. Entertaining, fascinating and over all a thrill of a read. To be able to craft such lively characters and a world filled with secrets and intrigue... where does she get inspiration to write stories like this? It's not just all about the sexual tension between Roth and Layla, it's about a girl's struggle to accept herself for who and what she is, and to be able to tough it out and see through what it's like to be in between. It's about seeing people for more than what they are and what they look like. Amidst the heart stopping action scenes, twisty developments and unexpected surprises left and right, there's that parting kick in the gut moments that just made the story all the more loveable. I was so engrossed in the novel that I almost ripped out the last few pages, hoping that there's more for me to read. Can I please have the sequel now?

Why I'm waiting for Snow Like Ashes:

Aside from that kick-ass sounding title? Please read the summary again and tell me that it's not as good, intriguing, interesting and beautiful as it sounds! Just give me a copy of this book and nobody gets hurt. But seriously, the only YA book that resembles YA high fantasy which I've ever read recently was The Burning Sky, and I loved that story with all my heart. This? This is another book to watch out for. I need it! And how cool is it that a General's name is Sir. How do you call him? Sir Sir? Okay, I'm kidding, but really. I WANT THIS NOW!

What a very, very interesting concept for a sci-fi thriller. Clones, memory uploading technology. I am deeply intrigued with how well the world building is in this story. I need to find out how it's done since it sounds like it plays a really big role in the life of the protagonist. Imagine if this exists now... wow. I have a feeling this is another debut we need to watch out for. There will be so much to discuss about this story if it's done right and I can't wait to read it!
